This article contains information about verifying the names of core 25Live data elements prior to your first LYNX import of section data into 25Live from your SIS. It is also useful when you need to update 25Live data because core data elements in your SIS (Department Codes, Building Code Descriptions, etc.) have changed.

For the section import and export processes to operate successfully, these core 25Live data elements must be appropriately named as described below and subsequently mapped to their corresponding section-related SIS data elements via LYNX data translation rules. For more information, see Specifying Data Translation Rules.

Locations

Each location that may be assigned to sections you plan to import into 25Live from your SIS must have a  corresponding 25Live Location. Make sure all your 25Live location names conform to the naming option you've elected to use.

Organizations

Each section imported into 25Live via the LYNX Interface will be assigned a primary organization. Each of these organizations must have a corresponding 25Live Organization. Make sure all your 25Live organization names conform to the naming option you've elected to use.

Limit the number of event types

There are multiple configuration options in the LYNX Interface that generate event types and/or append SIS data elements to event types. Remember, a useful event type list shouldn't exceed 30-40 choices, so be judicious in how you have LYNX create event types.

Instructors you plan to include in the sections you import into 25Live can exist as 25Live contacts. Each instructor email address in an imported section is matched against the work email addresses of 25Live contacts.

Event Categories

Each Event Category you plan to include in the sections you import into 25Live must correspond to a  25Live Event Category. Make sure all your 25Live event category names conform to the naming option you've elected to use.

Cabinets and Folders

In the 25Live Administration Utility, examine the date range of your academic cabinet and folders. If the current date range is large enough to contain the term you want to import, you don't need to do anything.

If the date range of your academic cabinet and folders represents individual terms/semesters, you'll need to copy the cabinet(s) and folder(s) from a previous term to create new cabinets and folders in which to store your new term's worth of data prior to section import into 25Live. In this case, you're likely still using a classic R25-oriented event structure and should consider updating to meet current best practices.

No need for date constraints on folders

Prior to LYNX, the academic cycle process required putting date constraints on the folders into which sections were imported to remove occurrences on holidays and exam weeks. With LYNX, date constraints are managed directly on the import extract set where they allow for additional functionality, such as scheduling makeup or conversion days. See Defining Date Exceptions.
