Recommended Process

This is the recommended process to perform after you've created a new export extract set, although it is not technically required. LYNX is designed to operate automatically on an ongoing basis to export all updated section data that is part of an active export extract set.

Workday Section Data Export Limitations

In the Workday version of LYNX, co-location section relationships (bindings) are lost after an export. If you use LYNX for Workday, you should create and maintain bound relationships using LYNX functionality. See Creating Bound Section Groups.

Manual and Automated Extract Processing

When exported manually as described below, extract sets contain all sections that meet the extract set criteria except:

  • Sections that weren’t previously imported into 25Live as part of an import extract set
  • Sections that were previously imported into 25Live and later deleted
  • Sections that were previously imported into 25Live and later changed to an event state other than Tentative or Confirmed

To Review and Export an Extract Set

  1. From the LYNX Export to SIS menu, choose Section Export.
  2. On the Extract Sets for SIS Exports page, select the extract set you want to export, then click Review and Export.
  3. Review the sections in the Export Extract Set list near the bottom of the page. The list shows the following information for each section:
    UID
    Summary (SUBJECT+COURSE NUMBER+SECTION NUMBER)
    Term Code
    Identifier
Export?—this column indicates whether or not the section will be exported and, if not, the reason. “Yes” indicates the section will be exported. “No Event” indicates the section doesn’t exist in 25Live, so can’t be exported. “No Location” indicates the section doesn’t have a location assignment in 25Live, so won’t be exported. If you want to export the section, assign a location to it in 25Live before you run the LYNX export process.

  4. Click Export to SIS, then click Yes to confirm. On the Export Details page, you see the progress of the export and, when the import is 100% Complete, the process details and chunk information.
  5. Review the process details which include the following:
Process ID—the internal number of the export process
Type—the type of export, in this case Section
Manual?—in this case Yes, since the process was initiated by an Interface user, not as an automated process
Section Count—the number of sections submitted for export
Sections Processed—the number of sections successfully processed
Sections Excluded—the number of sections excluded from the process
Chunk Count—the number of data chunks required
Create Date—when the export process was run

  6. To see the export process messages, click View All Messages to go to the Import/Export Messages page. In the Export to SIS - Summary By Message Level area, you can see at a glance the total number of items (in this case sections) the Interface attempted to export, and the number with warnings or errors. The detail list below shows the following for each section:
    UID—The internal ID
    Type—in this case Section
    Name—the name of the section
Date—when the export process attempted to export the section
Level—the message severity level associated with the section: info, warning, or error
The message associated with the section ( For information on export error and warning messages, see Troubleshooting Export Problems).

  7. When you’re done reviewing the messages, click Back above the message list to return to the Export Details page.

Message List Controls

Use the navigation controls below the message list to find and display the sections you’re interested in. You can also sort the list by clicking the heading you want to sort by.

Click the Show Message Summary button above the list to see a summary of all the messages on the page, including a count of the number of times each message was generated and the specific objects that triggered it.
